Natan deBridge
Ritual Musician

Music as an Ally
For practitioners, hosts, and facilitators
holding healing
& ceremonial work.

How A Musical Ally Supports Your Facilitation

Stuck energy starts moving, people drop out of their heads and into their hearts,
the container you're creating strengthens,
the shifts you're facilitating deepen
There's another attuned presence complementing what you are holding,

enhancing group bonding, coherence & connection

"I think one of Natan's greatest gifts with music is when he improvises with his guitar and sings in tongues."

— Zsoka, Family Constellation facilitator and energy healing practitioner

What This Collaboration Feels Like

Imagine having someone in the room whose sense of attunement and intuition you could really trust — not a musician who plays to fill space, but one who plays only when it's what the moment calls for, and who's attentive to your signals .

That's more than hiring a musician.

It's two layers of support at once:

— attuned, attentive, holding part of the container with presence,  and then the music as its own separate layer, potent, flowing, non-verbal.

Not another facilitator doubling what you're already holding — a complementary dimension to the work you're doing.

Reclaiming Music's Deeper Potential

The vision that moves me is to reclaim the power of music

for unifying and for healing.

It also holds and facilitates connection with the ancestral layer, our ancestral roots — that old lineage where, even for those of us who don't think of ourselves as indigenous, at some point far back our predecessors were using music for healing and ritual.

We can feel that in our bones when we experience it, and it speaks

directly to the soul.

That's the deeper current of why I do this work: for cultural repair and village building, empowering community — rather than mere entertainment,

using music for the depth it deserves.

What a Ritual Musician Does

In one healing workshop, the facilitator paused the group, and brought back the reverence of the moment after energy had started to drift.

Right after she finished, I used my Hosho (shaker) to clear the room — what I call a sound smudge — a sonic clearing of the energy that cuts through the fog and helps us start fresh.  Then the work could resume, and at a new depth. What she had initiated, I had felt and supported.

Often I will intuitively play my guitar and soulful vocal melodies emerge  guided by the energy of the moment–– responding to what is needed to deepen the work and bring coherence to the group.

Other moments when ritual music has great impact:

  • When energy feels stuck, rhythm, melody and music bring movement that clears stagnation.

  • When people are only in their heads, music is a medicine to access feeling, to drop into their hearts — the same way a good somatic practitioner brings people into their bodily awareness.

  • When a room is scattered, music draws it into coherence —weaving separate energies into a single field where the group can drop in together.

Not Background Music

This isn't ambient soundscapes, crystal bowls, or electronic pads playing quietly in the background. Nothing wrong with that — it's just not what this is.

Think of an African village, a gathering around a fire — no soundtrack off to the side; the people are present, dynamically engaged with each other and the music.

What I bring is not from any one culture, but the essence is pure, rootsy, acoustic — it can be very raw or refined, varied and dynamic.

Guitar and vocal melodies without words carry a lot of it, with shakers, drums, and mbira woven in as the moment calls for.

It's in the moment, it's authentic, and it moves energy — whether it's cathartic, loud and rhythmic, or as soft as a pulse, a baby's heartbeat, a tender lullaby – soothing, reassuring.

What Informs My Work

The value here isn't one credential — it's the combination of skills, training and experience woven into a fluid form.

  • Music — improvised guitar and vocal melodies are my main instruments: voice without words, singing in tongues. Occasionally traditional Mbira music— thousands of years old, central to Shona healing ceremonies of Zimbabwe and communicating with ancestors. Sometimes I use shakers, drums, or the handpan, or a piano when there is one.

  • Threshold attunement — my training in Narrative Coaching and threshold guidance, and my own personal rituals, have sharpened my sense for threshold moments, and this informs my intuitive sense of how and when to use music.

  • Ritual and ceremony — participating in or creating personal rituals and threshold crossings, ancestral reconnection with Grandmother Owl, and work with archetypes.

  • Healing modalities — direct, personal experience with somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems/Parts Work (IFS), Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy, and Pre/Perinatal early imprints and rebirthing work.

  • Deep nature connection — years of training that built the deep-listening skill underneath a lot of this: attuning to land, receiving what we call catching songs from the land and beings, rather than composing from the mind.

The Facilitator – Ritual Musician
Relationship

I'm here as a musical ally — someone who has your back, who contributes to and strengthens the container you're building.

By bringing me on your team, you're bringing in a powerful layer of support: someone present and attuned, amplifying the work you're already doing. It can ease the load and deepen the effectiveness of your work — and it gives you something distinct to promote, different from what others in your field offer.

I'm always watching and listening for the feedback from the field, from participants, from co-facilitators, and I adjust as needed.
I'm here to serve the people, to be in service to growth, connection and healing.

Reflections From Others

Alaya Turcotte, Québec

After the session I felt so much energy coming back in my body... when my voice is not free a lot of tiredness comes from it.

Our talk helped me understand more where the chains are, and felt the session was so sensitive and listening... I could really settle down and slow down. Your personal rhythm was really grounding, and today many people commented on how grounded my voice was!

I gave voice to my voice somehow.

Randy Gibbs, Golden, BC.

In my 5 years on Salt Spring, when I look back, you caused the greatest healing effect to my being that I received from anyone on that Island.

I am exceptionally grateful to you for the way you held my resonance with such gentle hands and nurtured it back to a place where I could let it come alive.
Thank you.

Estelle Vacher, Salt Spring
With Natan guiding me,
with ease and grace, I was able to free this burden of my lineage... and I saw with my inner vision my ancestors thanking me and acknowledging the healing.

Natan's wise presence and gentle guidance allow us to go deep inside ourselves
and heal ourselves,  in a safe container that he holds with love and compassion.
